Year Long Celebration Planned For 40th Anniversary Of Women's Athletics At John Carroll University

In honor of the 40-year anniversary of the women's intercollegiate athletic program at John Carroll University, the Athletic Department will collaborate with the Division of University Advancement to celebrate this milestone throughout the 2010-2011 academic year.

"We are very proud of what our women's athletic program has accomplished in its first 40 years," said Assistant Athletic Director Chris Wenzler. "From very humble beginnings under the direction of Dr. Kathleen Manning, the women's program has not only grown but flourished in large part due to the work of administrators, coaches, and the athletes themselves who were and continue to be dedicated to the advancement of their respective sports."

The signature event of the fall sports season will be Homecoming 2010, and several occasions during the weekend will be centered on highlighting alumnae athletes. Three individuals and one team will be inducted into the JCU Athletic Hall of Fame on the night of Friday, September 24.

On Saturday, September 25, there will be a special tent dedicated to women's athletics at the Belvoir Blvd. "Street Fair", a group photo is planned, and those in attendance will be recognized at the Homecoming football game.

Plans also include recognition at various women's sporting events over the course of the school year.

The John Carroll sports information office will also launch a year-long series of feature stories that will focus on past coaches and athletes who helped build their programs from 1970 to the present day. All stories in the series will bear the special 40th Anniversary of Women's Athletics logo.
