Anthony D'Aurizio became the third different Blue Streak in as many weeks to rush for over 100 yards in a single game by piling up 105 yards against Wilmington
Box Score Combining its most balanced offense attack with its stingiest defensive effort to date, John Carroll won its first game at Wilmington College since 2005 by knocking off the host Quakers, 44-7, Saturday afternoon at Williams Field.
Box Score
With its smallest gap between rushing (271) and passing (210) yardage thus far in 2011, the Blue Streaks built a 14-0 lead and never looked back in rolling to its third consecutive Ohio Athletic Conference victory.
The John Carroll defense set the tone early, forcing a three-and-out on the first possession of the game. The Blue Streak offense responded with a 10-play, 47-yard touchdown drive capped by a
Devin O'Brien two-yard run.
Emmett Lydon forced a fumble that
Ryan Winchell recovered on the next Quaker possession, setting up what looked to be another scoring drive. But O'Brien was picked off in the end zone to halt that threat.
It would be a momentary respite. John Carroll would score points on seven of its next eight drives.
In the second quarter alone,
Domonic De La Riva scored his first collegiate touchdown on a four-yard run, O'Brien scored his second touchdown of the day on a one-yard plunge, and with 14 ticks left on the clock,
Joe Quinzio hauled in a 22-yard pass from O'Brien for his first touchdown as a Blue Streak.
The Streaks would take a 28-7 lead into the intermission.
The only touchdown scored in the second half came on the first drive out of the locker room. A time consuming 14-play drive that chewed over eight minutes off the clock ended when
Anthony D'Aurizio was on the receiving end of O'Brien's second touchdown pass of the afternoon.
JCU's final points came via field goals from
