What could have been a four-set win for the John Carroll volleyball team turned into a heartbreaking five-set loss Saturday evening, as Wilmington College rallied for its first Ohio Athletic Conference win since 2008 with a 25-20, 22-25, 23-25, 28-26, 15-6 victory in Wilmington, Ohio.

JCU led by a 24-19 count and Melanie Rodriguez had just served an ace. But a three attack errors and a service error led to A 6-0 Wilmington run that enabled the Quakers to not only stay alive but take its first lead of the set. In the fourth game, the Streaks had leads of 8-1, 10-3, and 19-12.
Clearly with momentum on their side, the Quakers scored 11 of the first 13 points of game five to roll to the win
JCU had bounced back from a first game loss by winning close decisions in the second and third games. In game two, the Streaks broke away from a 19-19 tie thanks to two kills and an ace from Charlotte Sykora.
John Carroll (8-12, 0-3 OAC) was led by 15 kills and 23 assists from Kerry Fox, while Sykora had 14 kills and four aces.
Wilmington improved to 10-11 and 1-3 in league play with a big assist from Anne Keenan, who had 15 kills.
