Cally Plummer won 85 matches as John Carroll University head volleyball coach from 2005-2011
Cally Plummer, who has been head coach of the John Carroll volleyball program since 2005, will step down from the position effective December 1, 2011.
"Cally has been a valued member of our department and we are grateful for her efforts with our volleyball program over the last seven years,' said
Laurie Massa, Director of Athletics and Recreation at John Carroll University. "We wish her well in her future endeavors."
Plummer took over the program in 2005 shortly after a successful playing career as a four-time selection to the All-Southeastern Conference (SEC) volleyball team at the University of South Carolina. Plummer then served as a graduate assistant coach and volleyball camp director at her alma mater during the 2003-04 season.
In seven campaigns with the Blue Streak volleyball program, Plummer forged a record of 85-120 as its mentor. Her best season took place in 2008, when John Carroll posted a mark of 18-12 overall and 4-5 in the Ohio Athletic Conference.
JCU qualified for the league's postseason tournament in five of her seven years, but struggled to a 9-18 record in 2011, and went winless in league play for the first time since joining the OAC in 1989.
Plummer is one of just five volleyball head coaches in the program's 41-year history, following Kathleen Manning (1970-79, 1981-89), Sharon Daniels (1980),
Gretchen Weitbrecht (1990-2002), and Regan Pore (2003-04).
Massa indicated that the administration is prepared to set in motion a plan to move forward.
"We have high expectations for John Carroll volleyball and will begin a search for a new coach immediately," said Massa.
