Box Score It had been eight years since the Case Western Reserve Spartans and the John Carroll Blue Streaks hooked up on the hardwood.

Much like eight years ago, the ball bounced the Blue Streaks' way.

In Friday night's all-Cleveland championship game for the 2011 Bill Sudeck Holiday Tournament title, the Blue Streaks emerged once again victorious against their cross-town rivals from the University Athletic Association.

It was the first meeting between the two schools -- separated by less than ten miles -- since a 94-74 JCU win over the Spartans on November 28, 2003.

The John Carroll men's basketball team took home their second tournament championship of the season Friday night when they defeated the Spartans, 86-74.  In defeating the Spartans, the Blue Streaks forced a season-high 34 turnovers en-route to their first place finish at the 2011 Bill Sudeck Holiday Tournament Championship hosted by Case Western Reserve University.

During the course of the contest, the Blue & Gold trailed only once when they were down 9-7 at the 16:02 mark of the first half.  The Blue Streaks would then go on to outscore the Spartans 39-24 in the last 16:02 of the period to take a 46-33 lead into the half-time intermission, and would not look back from there.

John Carroll would start the second half on a 6-0 scoring run eventually getting their lead up to a game-high nineteen with 18:11 remaining in the contest.  The Spartans' relentlessness would show however as they would eventually cut the Blue Streaks lead to eight with a 1:04 remaining in the contest, outscoring the Blue Streaks 37-26 since the 18:11 mark of the contest.

The Blue & Gold would overcome Case's scoring run and clinch their second tournament championship of the season by going 6-6 in the final minute from the charity stripe with clutch free-throw makes by Corey Shontz, Michael Hartnett, and Mark Hester.

The Blue Streaks (8-2) were led offensively by senior guard and 2011 Bill Sudeck Holiday Tournament Most-Valuable-Player Corey Shontz with 19-points.  Senior forward Mark Hester would contribute 15 points, while senior guard Conor Sweeney would tie his career high with 13 points.

Conor Sweeney and Shontz would also lead the way for the Blue Streaks defensively forcing a combined total of thirteen turnovers with seven and six steals respectively.  Collectively as a unit the Blue Streaks would score 45 of their 86 points from Spartan miscues.

The Spartans (8-3) were led by senior forward Tom Summers with 17 points, while junior forward Austin Fowler and freshman guard Jordan Dean each contributed 13 points to Case's cause.  As a unit Case shot 51% from the field and only limited John Carroll to only 40.6% shooting, 36% in the second-half.  It was again the 34 turnovers that compromised the Spartan's attack from the get-go.

With the tournament championship the Blue Streaks won their second tournament championship of the season, adding on to their previous 2011 tournament championship when they took home the gold at the Spalding Thanksgiving Tournament in November down in Louisville, Kentucky.

Senior guard Corey Shontz was also honored with his second tournament MVP award of the 2011-2012 season thanks 34 points combined against first-round opponent Regis College and Case in the championship game, in addition to ten combined steals and assists.

Senior forward Mark Hester was also named to the Bill Sudeck Holiday Tournament all-tournament team.
