Before serving the Blue Streaks as a coach, Tom Arth threw for over 10,000 yards as a player
Current John Carroll assistant football coach
Tom Arth received what could very well be his final award for what he achieved as a player. The former Blue Streak All-American quarterback earned a spot on the D3football.com All-Decade team of the 2000's.
Arth is the first John Carroll athlete to ever be given such a distinction.
Upon his graduation, Arth became familiar with a hammer and chisel - his name appears in the Blue Streak football program's record book 19 different times. Most notably, Arth completed 741 passes for 10,345 yards and 89 touchdowns in his career.
"It's an incredible honor," said Arth. "To just be mentioned alongside those other guys, some of whom I played against, is truly humbling. "
During his senior year in 2002, Arth served as captain in leading John Carroll to the Eastern Regional Championship and a trip to the NCAA Final Four. To date, only the 2003 John Carroll Men's Basketball team has ever gone that deep into the national tournament.
As a junior, he was selected as a First Team All-American (2001) by D3football.com. As a senior, he acheived Second Team All-American (2002) status courtesy of the same poll. Arth was also a First-Team All-OAC quarterback in 2001 and 2002.
Arth spent a few years in the National Football League after his impressive Blue Streak career. He signed as a free agent with the Indianapolis Colts where he played alongside Peyton Manning for three years. In 2006, he spent time in the Green Bay Packers camp with Brett Favre as well. He furthered his professional experience in NFL Europe for two seasons, followed by a one year stint with the Arena Football League.
After his playing career came to a close, Arth wanted to give back to his alma mater. He just recently finished his first season back with John Carroll. Serving the team in a number of different ways, Arth is the Co-Offensive Coordinator, Quarterbacks Coach, Director of Football Operations and Assistant Recruiting Coordinator for the Blue Streak program.
"Coaching here has meant the world to me, " Arth continued. "John Carroll is a very special place to me. I feel so strongly about what this university and what this program stands for. To be in a position where I can help this team achieve lofty goals and to be a part of the athletic program again is an incredible experience. I truly look forward to coming in and working every day as we continue to build our program."
