John Carroll and Denison were the 2010 tournament champions of their respective conferences. This afternoon in Granville, Ohio, bragging rights were on the line between title winners from the Ohio Athletic and North Coast Athletic Conference.
Following 14 innings and two games, little resolution was earned as the result of a split. Denison won the opener, 3-2, while John Carroll blasted the Big Red, 11-3, in game two.
Box Scores:
Game One /
Game Two
Denison scored its three runs as part of a third inning rally. All three runs scored with two outs, the last of which was forced in a by a walk.
John Carroll made matters interesting thanks to a pair of runs driven in by
Angela Vistocco (Victor, NY, Victor) in the sixth, but a runner in the sixth and seventh was stranded on base representing the tying run.
The nightcap lacked any real drama, other than how many runs were the Streaks capable of plating. In the first,
Samantha Becker (Roselle, IL, Lake Park) walked in her leadoff at bat, and would eventually score one of John Carroll's five runs in the frame.
The big blow was when
Anna Fach (Massillon, OH, Perry) doubled to right field plating two more runs.
Ahead 4-1, John Carroll scored five more times in the third. Becker had the monster hit, blasting her first career grand slam.
Trisha Pike (Perry, NY, Notre Dame Batavia) picked up the win with four innings of work and allowing just three runs.
John Carroll moves to 10-4 following the day's action, while Denison slips to 10-2.
