Repeat Performances By Becker And Danilov Carry Blue Streaks To Softball Sweep

The JCU dugout erupts behind Samantha Becker as her solo home run in game two clears the fence to tie the game at 1-1

John Carroll's Brittany Danilov pitched a pair of complete game victories, and her freshman teammate Samantha Becker had a solo home run in each game as the Blue Streaks swept an Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader from visiting Muskingum University Tuesday at Bracken Field.

In both cases, JCu rallied from an early deficit to claim a win. Down 2-0 in game one, a four-run second inning led to a 5-2 victory. In the nightcap, a 1-0 Muskingum lead was eventually wiped out by two runs in the sixth as JCU emerged on top, 3-1.

Box Scores:  Game One  /  Game Two

In the opener, Muskingum used two bases loaded walks to open up a 2-0 advantage in the top of the second inning. John Carroll got two quick outs in the bottom of the second, but then two batters reached base safely to set up Danilov. With just one RBi on the season to her credit, JCU's starting pitcher launched her first home run of the year -- a three-run shot over the left field fence.

Michelle Murphy followed with a blast to right field that glanced off a Muskie glove and over the fence. When the dust settled, the Streaks were up 4-2.

Becker added insurance in the sixth with a solo home run, and it turned out to be needed. The Muskies loaded the bases in the top of the seventh with two out, but Danilov recorded her fifth and final strikeout to end the game.

The Muskies also struck first in game two. A quick run in the top of the first would hold up until the fourth inning, when Becker tied the contest with a solo shot to left field.

It was not until the sixth that the deadlock was broken. A bases loaded single by Ally Kleinhans and a walk by Angela Vistocco pushed ahead to winning runs.

Danilov's two wins pushed her record to 11-5. In 14 innings, she allowed 11 hits, walked seven, struck out 11 and allowed just three runs.

JCU is now 16-8 overall and 6-2 (T-2nd) in the OAC. Muskingum slips to 8-17 and 2-6 in the OAC.
