Anna Fach had fout hits in eight at bats during a doubleheader against Case Reserve
For just the second time in the last three seasons, the John Carroll softball team was swept at home.
Trouble was, it could have just as easily gone the other way.
Twice, John Carroll has seized late momentum only to give it back in a pair of one-run losses. JCU fell by a 6-5 score in game one and 13-12 in eight innings in game two to visiting Case Western Reserve University.
Box Scores:
Game One /
Game Two
JCU trailed 4-2 in game one, only to rally for a 5-4 lead.
Mackenzie Griffin belted a two-out two-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Blue Streaks the lead.
Case answered back with a two-run home blast of its own, however, in the top of the seventh to steal the game back.
In the nightcap, John Carroll trailed 6-2 in the bottom of fifth but exploded for seven runs. At one point, seven consecutive Blue Streaks reached base -- six on hits including RBI doubles by
Anna Fach and Griffin.
True to form, Case would answer. Two runs each in the sixth and seventh gave the Spartans a 10-9 advantage. It took an
Ally Kleinhans two-out RBI single to extend the game into extra innings.
Once there, the Spartans would plate three runs, after which John Carroll could only produce two.
Th sweep was the first by Case over John Carroll since 2001.
Case improved to 12-20 while the Streaks fell to 13-7.
