JCU Softball Now In Win Or Go Home Mode Following Tournament Opening Loss

The JCU outfield, featuring two of the team's three seniors -- Jamie Colley (center) and Angela Vistocco (right) -- face the prospect of elimination from here on out in the OAC Tournament
When John Carroll made its run to the 2010 Ohio Athletic Conference Softball Tournament title, it was blemish free.

If the Blue Streaks are to make a run in the 2011 OAC Tournament, they will have to recover from an early blemish.

Third-seeded Baldwin-Wallace used timely hitting to outlast a suddenly cold offense from John Carroll, picking off the Streaks by a 3-0 count Friday in the tournament opening game in Ada, Ohio.

Box Score

The bad news on top of the loss for John Carroll was that the Streaks suffered their third shutout loss of the year and their second in the last five days. The good news is that the OAC Softball Tournament is a double elimination tournament, meaning JCU will get a chance for redemption.

That opportunity will take place Saturday morning at 9:00 am when John Carroll faces top-seed, host and fellow OAC regular season champion Ohio Northern in an elimination game.

Baldwin-Wallace scored the only run it needed in the fourth inning on a bases loaded sacrifice fly. The insurance runs came in the seventh when Ashley Elber hit a two-run homer.

JCU managed just six hits, with Erin Riccardi as the only Blue Streak with more than one.

Brittany Danilov took the loss, giving up three runs on eight hits and striking out seven
