Blue Streaks Succumb To Depth Of Polar Bears In 2012 Opener Loss

Fate wasn't kind to the John Carroll University men's swimming and diving team as it opened the 2012 season with a 204-75 home loss to the Ohio Northern University Polar Bears.

JCU achieved a handful of individual wins, but the young team could not keep up with the experience and depth of ONU.

David Sved helped pick up points for the Blue Streaks in the 200-yard Freestyle, finishing in first place with a time of 1:50.16. Teammate Nick Holvey also racked up points in the same event, finishing in third with a time of 1:52.41.

Holvey also finished in first place in the 50-yard Freestyle event, winning the event narrowly with a final time of 22.36, just .09 seconds quicker than the second place finisher.

Drew Edson showed his endurance in the 500-yard Freestyle event by picking up a first place finish (4:59.17) as well as nine points for JCU.

From here, the Blue Streaks will take to the road next weekend as they travel to Case Western Reserve University to compete in the 2012 Cleveland Championship on both Friday, Nov. 2 and Saturday, Nov. 3.
