JCU Dispatches Defiance And Wilmington In OAC Home Meet

With the 2012-2013 season in full swing, the John Carroll women's swimming team was hoping to make a statement against conference opponents Wilmington College and Defiance College.

Results

With a 140 to 63 victory over Wilmington and a 173 to 21 handling of Defiance, the message was sent loud and clear.

The Blue Streaks won early and often over the course of the afternoon. Maggie Donoghue, Lindsey Fano, Rachael Libertin and Karyn Adams got the Blue & Gold off on the right foot by winning the 200 Yard Medley Relay with a 1:58.16, beating the Quakers by .62 of a second.

Julia Adams would continue the trend, winning the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a time of 11:30.23. Teammate Katie Sheffield finished in second at 11:51.31.

Rachael Libertin brought home the 200 Yard Freestyle with a time of 2:05.29, and Karyn Adams wrapped up the 100 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:03.13.

Tori Watson and Julia Adams would go 1-2 for the 50 Yard Freestyle with times of 25.71 and 25.80, respectively. Fano and Donoghue would do the same thing during the 200 Yard Individual Medley with times of 2:19.76 and 2:25.62.

Rachael Minzer took home first place in the 500 Yard Freestyle with a time of 5:40.64 and Fano would finish in second with a time of 5:43.52. Julia Adams would win her second event of the afternoon in the 100 Yard Breaststroke with a time of 1:11.54. Teammate Megan Carrig would finish right behind her in 1:13.14, good enough for second place.

The collective effort of Karyn Adam, Watson, Libertin and Minzer won the 200 Yard Freestyle Relay to finish off the meet with a win. The relay finished with a time of 1:45.54, more than four seconds ahead of the second place Quakers.

Next for the Blue Streaks is a quad meet against Cleveland State, Notre Dame College and Canisius College on Tuesday December 4, at 3:00 p.m.
