The John Carroll men's basketball team entered Wooster's Timken Gymnasium Friday night with the daunting task of competing against the #13 Fighting Scots, and while JCU put up a fight, Wooster came away with the 81-67 win.
Leading 36-31 at halftime, the Fighting Scots used a balanced offensive attack to put away the visiting Blue Streaks, as five different players scored at least 11 points for the hosts.
After Wooster took a 24-15 advantage with 10:38 remaining in the first half, JCU put together a 16-8 run culminated by a
Danny Wallack 3-pointer to cut the lead to 32-31 with under three minutes before intermission.
Following the break, the Scots built a 13-point lead with just over 11 minutes to play. Again, the Blue & Gold battled back, trimming the advantage to 65-60 on a pair of free throws from
Ryan Farragher. JCU, however, could not pull any closer and Wooster claimed the victory.
Wallack and
Kyle Hubbard paced the Streaks with 13 points each, while
Regan Sweeney and
David Hendrickson were not far behind with nine tallies apiece.
John Carroll stayed in the game by forcing 20 turnovers, but was out-rebounded handily (46-29).
With the loss, the Blue & Gold fall to 5-5, 3-2 in the Ohio Athletic Conference, while Wooster climbs to 9-2.
JCU will play Geneva College on Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Wooster in its final game of the 2012 "Mose" Hole / Kiwanis Classic.
