Hannah Baumwell was one of three Blue Streaks involved in a three-set singles match against Ohio Northern
Losing all three doubles matches is the tall mountain a tennis team would rather not climb to claim a dual meet victory.
John Carroll was forced into such an expedition, and came closer to reaching the summit than the final score would indicate. Four of six tightly contested singles matches went the way of the visiting Polar Bears as the Blue Streaks fell, 7-2, Saturday afternoon at the Paramount Tennis Club in Medina, Ohio.
Box Score
After falling behind 3-0, John Carroll had to win five of the six singles bouts to claim the match. Victories by
Maria Ciccolini at #1 and
Joanne Weber at #3 would be the only results that fell JCU's way. Ciccolini won in straight sets while Weber rallied from a set down to win her contest.
Two other matches went to three sets, but neither
Cassie Simmelink or
Hannah Baumwell could pull out a win. Simmelink fell by a 6-7, 6-3, 6-2 score at #2 singles, while Baumwell dropped a 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 decision.
John Carroll is now 5-3 overall and 0-1 in the OAC. Ohio Northern moved to 8-4 and 1-0 in league action.
