Samantha Becker (#17) spent plenty of time on the base paths against the Polar Bears
Box Score 1 |
Box Score 2 On a day when the weather cooperated and the John Carroll softball team finally hosted a 2012 contest, the Blue Streaks' home field advantage was curtailed early and the Polar Bears went on to take both games of the doubleheader, 12-2 and 7-3.
Billed as a clash of two of the OAC's top teams, Ohio Northern jumped on JCU ace
Brittany Danilov early and never eased up in the first game Sunday afternoon at Bracken Field.
Danilov recorded two quick outs in the top half of the first inning, before a bloop single by ONU's Kimi Blewett began a five-run rally for the visitors.
The Polar Bears tacked on two runs each in the second and third innings, while Abbey Bensing held Blue Streak hitters to just two runs and four hits.
The lone bright spot in Game One for JCU was the hitting of sophomore shortstop
Samantha Becker, who went 3-for-3 at the plate, including a solo home run in the fifth inning. She finished a combined 5-for-7 in the two games, scoring three runs.

Game 2
The afternoon's second contest was more of the same offensively for ONU. The Polar Bears put two runners across home plate in the first inning against JCU's
Trisha Pike. By the end of the third, the visitors held a 6-1 lead.
The Blue Streaks showed signs of life offensively in the fifth and sixth innings, but strong defensive plays by ONU coupled with JCU baserunning gaffes limited the Streaks to one run in each frame.
The Polar Bears amassed 23 total hits in the two games, and 15 of their combined 19 runs came in the first three innings of each contest.
Danilov falls to 8-3 on the year in the circle, and Pike is now 5-2.
JCU as a team slips to 13-5 overall and 0-2 in the OAC. Ohio Northern climbs to 10-4, 2-0 in league play.
