Blue Streaks third baseman Erin Riccardi had three hits and two RBIs in John Carroll's sweep over Wilmington Friday
Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 It was well worth the 426 mile round trip excursion down south to Wilmington as the Blue Streaks softball team won their third and fourth games in a row in a Friday doubleheader against the Quakers.  The victories also marked their first two wins in Ohio Athletic Conference play as the Blue Streaks took game one 4-1, and game two 4-2.

In game one senior pitcher Brittany Danilov improved to 10-5 on the season following a complete game performance.  En route to her tenth win of the season, Danilov fanned 11 Quakers and only allowed one run in the Blue Streaks' 4-1 victory.

The Blue Streaks crossed home plate for the first time in the fifth frame courtesy of a two out base hit by sophomore shortstop Samantha Becker that allowed sophomore outfielder Colleen Brady to score.

Then in the ensuing inning, the Blue & Gold struck for three runs as senior outfielder Michelle Murphy drove in senior third-baseman Erin Riccardi, who led off the frame with a double down the left-field line.  Sophomore Nicole Fluharty, who was brought in as a pinch hitter in the inning, singled through the right side to drive in Heather Hurley for the Blue Streaks' second run in the inning.  Then, the three run offensive attack culminated with a Lia Locey bunt single that drove in Murphy making it a 4-0 John Carroll lead.

Danilov would allow one run in the seventh inning following a two out Kerri Cunagin single that scored Stacy Lunsford.  Danilov would allow only six hits in the entire ballgame.

With the victory, the Blue Streaks improved to 16-9 overall, 1-4 OAC.  Wilmington fell to 11-14 overall, 2-3 OAC.

Box Scores: Game 1 / Game 2

In game two, the Quakers pounded out 11 hits off sophomore starting pitcher Trisha Pike but only had two runs to show for.  The Blue Streaks had seven hits in the ballgame which led to two runs being scored in the first inning along with one in the third and fifth innings.

In the first inning, Riccardi ripped a one out double to left field that scored Mackenzie Griffin who reached base via a walk.  Two batters later Riccardi scored on a Michelle Murphy two-out RBI single which made it 2-0 Blue Streaks.

Wilmington responded with one in the bottom of the first frame, to just have the Blue Streaks come right back in the third with Samantha Becker's leadoff homerun that made it 3-1 Blue Streaks.  Becker's homerun was her third in 2012.

After allowing a run in the bottom of the third to the Quakers and being held scoreless in the fourth, John Carroll came right back in the fifth inning with a run of insurance thanks to a two out RBI double by Riccardi that scored Lia Locey making it 4-2 Blue & Gold.

Brittany Danilov shut the door for the final 1.1 innings picking up her third save of the season while not allowing a single hit to Wilmington hitters.  Trisha Pike went 5.2 innings for the Blue Streaks and picked up her seventh win in 2012.

The 4-2 win in game two propels the Blue Streaks to a 17-9 overall record, 2-4 in the OAC.

The Wilmington loss drops them to 11-15 overall, 2-4 OAC.

After snapping their seven game losing streak against Hiram on April 4, the Blue Streaks find themselves on a four game winning streak.  They will bring that four-game winning streak home to University Heights on Wednesday April 11 when they host the University of Mount Union in an OAC doubleheader beginning at 3:30 pm at Bracken Field.
