Megan Lutz, a familiar name to the Cross Country/Track & Field Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference list, has been named Academic All-OAC for the 2011-12 season after two consecutive years as an Honorable Mention.
A senior double major in Education and English with a 3.98 cumulative GPA, Lutz participated in cross country, as well as indoor and outdoor track for the Blue Streaks.
In cross country, she helped John Carroll to a second place finish at the 2011 OAC Championships. Her 24:27.3 time at OACs was good for 40th place overall.
Lutz excelled in track & field, as well. Among other indoor highlights, she finished fourth in the 1,000 Meter Run at the Mid-February meet at Baldwin-Wallace and fifth in the Mile Run at the Greater Cleveland meet.
Outdoors, she was an OAC Champion as a member of JCU's 4x800 relay team that defeated the competition by more than eight seconds. Individually, she added a fourth place finish in the 1,500 Meter Run and a fifth place mark in the 5,000 Meter Run.
Despite year-round athletics, Lutz has been just as busy away from the course and track. She has taken part in JCU Immersion trips, volunteered at numerous local organizations, and has served as a Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) leader. She is also a member of the Alpha Sigma Nu and Phi Eta Sigma honor societies and has had her poetry published in the
Carroll Review.
The academic award winners are selected by the OAC faculty representatives. To be eligible for Academic All-OAC, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.25 cumulative GPA, be a starter or key reserve, and be in at least her second year of participation in the sport.
