Shaq Bridges tallied a pair of assists in John Carroll's 6-3 win over Mount Union
Box Score Building on the momentum of the last two weeks, the John Carroll men's soccer team defeated Mount Union in a high scoring affair, 6-3, at Shula Stadium Tuesday night.
It was John Carroll's sixth consecutive win and ran its unbeaten streak at home to 17 (15-0-2) dating back to 2011.
The Blue Streaks had been on a hot streak, outscoring their opponents by a 21-3 advantage over the last five matches.
Tuesday evening proved to be much of the same.
The opening ten minutes belonged to the two most recent recipients of the Ohio Athletic Conference Player of the Week awards.Â
John Carroll junior midfielder Brian Potocnik, a two-time winner of the league's weekly honor (Sept. 30 and October 7) connected on his tenth goal of the season when he followed in his own shot that had been deflected.
Responding one minute later, Purple Raider senior Thomas Beck scored from 30 yards out, allowing the reigning OAC Player of the Week to knot the score at 1-1.
Potocnik then was assisted by senior
Mariusz Trzeciak on his second goal of the game at the 23:45 mark to take the lead back, 2-1.
"Unfortunately after the first goal we kind let it drop a little bit" said Potocnik, "but responding to their goal is always huge. The momentum was definitely shifted in our direction after that."
Building on the lead, Trzeciak launched a bullet that was assisted by sophomore
Shaq Bridges, scoring in the 30th minute. JCU would take a 4-1 lead before the end of the opening half when freshman
Justin Miller splits the net in half by scoring his second goal of the season with assist by senior
Boban Cancar.
Beck opened the second half scoring in the 59th minute with his second goal  of the game from almost the same distance as the first. But just as they had done in the first half, the Blue Streaks responded with a beautiful answer. Trzeciak timed up a pass from Bridges and performed a varsion of the bicycle kick to blast in his second on John Carroll's fifth goal of the game.
Mount scored its final goal on a penalty kick by Beck which completed his hat trick in the 80th minute
The scoring finally ended with a goal by JCU freshman
Tim Delaney, his second goal of the year, in the 89th minute.
For John Carroll, which improved to 12-0-1 against the Purple Raiders at Shula Stadium since last losing to Mount Union in 1985, it marked the 13th time in as many matchesthis season that the team scored at least one goal. But it also marked the 11th time the Blue Streaks scored multiple goals.

John Carroll improves their record 11-2 and 4-0 in conference to maintain their hold on sole possesion of first place in the league, while Mount Union falls 7-7 overall, 2-2 in the OAC.
The Blue and Gold travels to New Concord on Saturday, October 19, to face Muskingum University at 7pm.
