Looking to start the season strong the John Carroll University men's swimming and diving team faced a tough opponent in Ohio Northern who enters the season in quest of a 10-straight OAC crown. Ohio Northern coasted to a 203-68 win in the season-opener.
Two freshmen led the way for John Carroll in
Ben Parker and
Gabe Nock.
Parker swam well in his collegiate debut. The freshman captured the 400-IM with a time of 4:25.27. Parker added a third place showing in his first collegiate race, the 1,000-free, checking in at 10:33.81. He picked up a fourth place finish in the 200-back as well for JCU.
Nock posted a runner-up mark in the 50-free at 22.28. The freshman teamed with
Nick Holvey,
Gabe Nock,
John Scantling and
David Sved to claim runner-up honors in the final race of the day, the 200-free relay.
The relay of
Zach Morris, Michael Goggins, Holvey and Sved kicked off the men's side of the
Mark Fino era clocking in at 1:43.30 to take third in the 200-medley relay.
Sved and Scantling gave the Blue Streaks two point scorers in the 200-free finishing in third and fourth place respectively.
Goggins added a third place mark in the 100-breast touching at 1:04.20. He would go on to add a fourth place finish later in the meet during the 200-breast. Holvey would add a third place finish in the 100-free.
Doug Hinchen was the only competitor in the 1-meter diving event leading to the freshmen picking up nine points towards the team score.
The men's swimming and diving team will be back in action with a 1 p.m. meet at Case Western Reserve on Saturday, Nov. 2.
