With the
Mark Fino era officially kicking off on Saturday afternoon the John Carroll University women's swimming and diving team looked to blend experience and youth together to make a splash in the pool. The Blue Streaks took first in five events but the Polar Bears took the meet 187.5-88.5.
The quartet of
Rachael Libertin,
Lindsey Fano,
Margaret Zagrobelny and
Victoria Watson officially kicked off the Fino era with a third place finish in the 200-medley relay at 1:57.67.
Junior
Katii Sheffield had a strong start to the season picking up the first event win of the Fino era of John Carroll swimming and diving. Sheffield took first in the 1,000-free clocking in at 11:20.39. Sheffield would go on to take first in the 500-free at 5:33.07.
Fano also picked up two wins during the meet. Fano owned both breaststroke events winning the 100 in 1:09.69 and the 200 in 2:32.62. The sophomore added runner-up honors in the 400-IM clocking in at 4:53.75.
Watson picked up the fifth event win out-touching Emily Uhrin of Ohio Northern by 15 hundreds of a second to take the 200-free. Watson and Uhrin would finish neck-and-neck in the 50-free with both swimmers touching at 26.32 to tie for second.
Rachael Libertin added a runner-up mark in the 200-fly clocking in at 2:25.50. The senior would later take third in the 100-fly.
Samantha Clark placed second in the 1-meter diving and will look to carry on the long tradition of divers at John Carroll.
Ohio Northern won by the overall score of 187.5-88.5.
The women's swimming and diving team will compete at Case Western Reserve on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 1 p.m.
