Box Score Looking to get back on track the John Carroll University women's soccer team struck first but could not hold on in a 3-1 loss to Otterbein University on Tuesday afternoon.
Nicki Bohrer scored her team-leading third goal of the season in the 15th minute for JCU's first score in its last three games.
The lead would not hold up as Otterbein's Jillian Strimbu netted the equalizer eight minutes later. The Cardinals added a pair of second half scores by Morgan Hendrickson and Madison Burchfield. Burchfield's goal with 97 second remaining erased all hope of a comeback.
Kay Akerly nearly put the Blue Streaks ahead just before halftime. The junior slid in a shot but crafty play by an Otterbein defender kept the ball from crossing into the net. Akerly led the offense with half of the Blue Streaks' shots.
JCU mounted a last-minute rally but Otterbein was up to the task. The Cardinals blocked a shot by
Genny Goergen and Dana Strimbu turned away an Akerly attempt.
Otterbein outshot John Carroll 14-10 but the Blue Streaks outshot the Cardinals 7-4 in the second half. The Blue Streaks fell to 3-6-3, 0-2-0 while the Cardinals improved to 6-4-1, 1-1-0.
John Carroll returns home to take on Marietta on Saturday, Oct. 12 at 1 p.m.
