Box Score With two big upcoming games looming in the future for the John Carroll University football team, the Blue Streaks headed to Wilmington looking to put together another complete game.

Led by an unstoppable aerial assault by junior quarterback Mark Myers the No. 13/15 Blue Streaks used big plays in all three phases to run away from the Fightin' Quakers 63-3 and improve to 8-0, 7-0 OAC.

"It really starts with the guys up front," said head coach Tom Arth. "It all starts with protection. Our offensive line did a great job giving Mark a lot of time back there to really see the field. We feel that when we're able to give him some time he can make some plays with his arm. The receivers were really able to get themselves open. I'm really proud of that. You really don't expect to see the finished product we saw and they did a good job executing."

The passing game clicked from the get-go when Myers and Aramis Greenwood hooked up for a 53-yard touchdown strike on the game's opening drive.

A week after hauling in 15 passes, Greenwood became one of Myers' favorite targets once again. The duo went on to connect for two more scores from six and 23 yards out. Greenwood finished the game with seven receptions for 113 yards, all of which came in the first half.

With just eight receptions coming into the game Brian Kornowski stepped up and scorched the Fightin' Quaker defense for seven receptions good for 132 yards. The freshman became a go-to target with three of his receptions coming on third-down including a 5-yard touchdown strike in the second quarter.

"Brian played really well," said Arth. He's a freshmen. That's what's great, there's a lot of young guys out here playing, a lot of freshmen getting some great experience, performing well at a high level. I think that first third down conversion Brian made a big catch on that and it was a huge play for us to continue our drive and to really get off to a good start."

Myers went on to finish with 363 yards completing 22-of-26 passes for five touchdowns, just one short of tying his career-high set at Muskingum last season.

Receiving the ball back with 35 seconds remaining in the first half the offense was hungry for more and ate up big chunks of yardage. Myers hit Jordan D'Orazio for 27 yards and then promptly found a wide-open Kornowski to put the ball within field goal range.

However, with more time left on the clock Myers then found Alex Kline for 20 yards moving the ball to the Wilmington 11-yard line. Two plays later Myers and a leaping Jordan D'Orazio made it 42-0.

After several weeks of big returns D'Orazio finally broke one taking a 73-yard punt return back for a touchdown late in the first quarter to put John Carroll up 14-0. It marked JCU's first non-blocked punt return for a touchdown since 2005.

Said Arth, "It was great to see Jordan play well in the return game and on offense as well."

With the defense faced with the possibility of giving up its first points in the first half this season, the Blue Streaks buckled down. With Wilmington driving reaching the Blue Streak 9-yard line Ryan Winchell intercepted a Brandon Arehart pass to thwart the Fightin' Quakers.

Looking to record its fifth shutout of the season the defense was once again tested with just under eight minutes left in the game. With the Fightin' Quakers driving inside the JCU 5-yard line Michael Hippler stood up Austin Jarbo on third down setting up a 25-yard field goal – Wilmington's only points in the game.

The No. 1 scoring defense added three more takeaways in the second half. Jovon Dawson added a sliding interception in the third quarter before the Wilmington offense could mobilize. Jimmy King stayed home on a Jarbo attempted scramble and pried the ball loose with an alert Nick Lasko falling on the loose pigskin. Jared Donovan picked off the third Wilmington pass of the day in the fourth quarter.

Matched up against the OAC's No. 1 passing offense, the country's No. 1-ranked passing defense was up for the test holding Wilmington's quarterbacks to 11-of-30 passing for just 143 yards.

Jake Schaefer played well in the second half after taking over for Myers. The sophomore connected with Ryan Greenwood from 24 yards out and found a wide-open Jake Mooney for a 29-yard strike on John Carroll's next possession.

Josh Dasch added a 9-yard score for his first career varsity touchdown with 4:41 in the game. The sophomore led the ground game with 11 carries for 85 yards.

John Carroll returns home to host Heidelberg on Saturday, Nov. 9 with a 1:30 p.m. kickoff. Prior to the game the Blue Streaks will honor the seniors. Additionally, John Carroll will be collecting donations for its Kick-It campaign to help cure childhood cancer. Donations can be dropped off at the parent's tailgate located on the tennis courts beginning at 10:30 a.m. or through the online link found here.
