Freshman Catherine Engel shined for JCU in her first OAC Tournament match
Every individual match went the way of the Blue Streaks on Tuesday afternoon in University Heights, as the JCU women's tennis team shut out Capital University, 5-0, in the Quarterfinal Round of the 2013 Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament.

Results

The competition began with a trio of doubles victories for the host Blue Streaks, led by Catherine Engel and Kyle Cousineau at #1 doubles.  The duo was challenged by the Crusaders before pulling out an 8-5 win.

Playing in the middle court, Anna Stein and Tracy Gibson knocked off Capital's Ashlin Gable and Alyssa Trier, 8-2.  And at #3 doubles, the pair of Hannah Baumwell and Emily Gorndt kept the shutout alive in an 8-3 triumph.

With a 3-0 team lead, it only took two singles bouts to clinch the JCU win and advance the Blue Streaks to the Semifinals, which will take place at the Lindner Tennis Center in Cincinnati.

Engel (#1 singles) took care of business, 6-0, 6-1, while Tracy Gibson (#3 singles) did the same by a 6-1, 6-1 score to finish the job.

John Carroll will play the winner of No. 1 Ohio Northern and No. 8 Muskingum on Friday, May 3 for a berth in the OAC Championship match.
