For John Carroll, the disparity between the seasons went to another level.
On Friday afternoon at Trine University in Angola, Indiana, Thomas More College scored twice in the fifth and sixth innings to pull away from the Blue Streaks, 4-0. It was John Carroll's second consecutive shutout loss in the 2013 NCAA tournament and, as a result, was the second tean eliminated from the regional.
John Carroll's season ends at 26-13.
As a team that averaged ten hits and nearly five-and-a-half runs per contest during the first 34 games of the year, the final two games were a painfully shocking way to end a promising year. On Thursday afternoon, JCU fell by a 4-0 score to Allegheny College in a game in which the Streaks were held to a single hit.
On Friday, JCU managed just two hits against Thomas More. which improved to 25-18.
“We peaked about two weeks ago offensively. The stats don't lie,” John Carroll head coach Erin Brooks said after the loss. "We hit and defended all year ... we were a triple threat.
Morgan Robinson and
Lia Locey had the two hits -- both singles -- against the Saints, who improved to 25-18.
“We were all pushing too hard at this point,” said Robinson. “We were trying too hard.”
