Box Score Off to its best start since 2009, the John Carroll men's soccer team traveled to Case Western Reserve University looking to continue to gain momentum with conference play looming starting next weekend.

Unfortunately for the Blue Streaks they ran into a red-hot Spartan team and were unable to finish the comeback and fell to 5-2-0 on the season. The Spartans improved to 4-0-3 with their 2-1 win.

Case Western Reserve's Jacob Grindel and Matthew Zembas netted two Spartan goals in the 27th minute to jumpstart the Spartans.

Brian Potocnik scored for the second straight game from 25 yards out on a cross from Thor Eriksen to breathe life into the Blue Streaks.

Wycliffe Odhiambo led the charge late as the Blue Streaks desperately tried to score the equalizer. The senior sent two headers at the net but Case Western Reserve goalkeeper Ari Lewis came up with the save both times. Trent Guy sent one final shot at the night with 58 seconds remaining but Lewis had the answer again for one of his seven saves.

Minutes earlier, the Blue Streaks warded off three corner kicks within a two minute stretch by the Spartans to keep their deficit at one.

JCU finished with a 17-12 edge on shots including a four-shot advantage in the second half. Freshman Zach Fehrenbach gathered in four saves.

John Carroll remains on the road with a 4 p.m. contest against Rochester College (Mich.) on Saturday, Sept. 28.
