Brian Potocnik's early goal gave the Blue Streaks the win.
Box Score Scoring early puts the pressure on the opponent in soccer and that's exactly what the John Carroll University men's soccer team did on Saturday to take the 1-0 win against Lynchburg College in the opening round of the Lynchburg College Invitational Tournament.
"Today was a great road win," said John Carroll University men's soccer head coach
Hector Marinaro. "The boys battled hard for 90 minutes and got what they deserved. We need to continue to build on this and move in a positive direction to get better every game."
The Blue Streaks improved to 2-0 on the young season.
Brian Potocnik found the net in the eighth minute of the game off a feed from
Mariusz Trzeciak for the game's lone goal.
John Carroll continued to blast shot after shot on the Hornets in the next six minutes. Trzecik sailed a shot wide and
Trent Guy sent one high before
Wycliffe Odhiambo was turned away twice by Lynchburg goalkeeper Jonathan Sheffield.
Goalkeeper
Zach Fehrenbach held strong in the final seven minutes of the game with two of his saves.
JCU continued the offensive onslaught to start the second half with six shots in the first 11 minutes. A header by Guy and a shot from Trzeciak were both turned away by Sheffield.
John Carroll finished with a 21-7 shot advantage.
The Blue Streaks face a quick turnaround and will face Roanoke College at 1 p.m. on Sunday.
