Box Score As another winter storm and frigid temperatures continue to roll through Northeastern Ohio, it was only fitting that the John Carroll University men's basketball team tangled with the Ohio Northern University Polar Bears.
Originally slated for Saturday, the game was postponed 24 hours to Sunday to allow for better travel conditions for the Blue Streaks.
Playing in its first OAC regular-season Sunday game since Feb. 6, 2005 (at Muskingum), John Carroll could not connect out of the gate and dropped a 97-80 decision in Ada, Ohio. The Blue Streaks fell to 11-6, 5-5 OAC while the Polar Bears improved to 9-8, 5-5 OAC.
The game featured a tale of two halves and the Blue and Gold finally found some momentum coming out of the locker room at halftime. John Carroll would go on to outscore Ohio Northern 52-51 in the second half.
JCU connected on three 3-pointers to start the second half with two coming from sophomore
Danny Wallack and the third from sophomore
Joey Vuyancih.
John Carroll worked hard to end the game strong and outscored Ohio Northern 29-17 over the final 9:59 of the contest.
Wallack would drill a third trifecta in the half with 8:42 remaining as JCU looked to make a final push to work back into the game.
Vuyancih led the Blue and Gold in scoring for the second straight game with 18 points. Kucharewicz added 14 points and finished 4 for 5 at the free throw line.
Defensively, the Blue Streaks were led by
David Hendrickson, the OAC leader in steals, who recorded four on the afternoon.
The Blue Streaks shot 48.7 percent in the second half to finish with a 42.3 shooting percentage for the game.
The men's basketball team returns home to take on Mount Union at 7 p.m. on Wednesday. At halftime the Blue Streaks will honor their fall student-athletes and coaches who earned athletic and academic honors.
