Statements made by swim teams in October often have little carryover as championships are conducted in February. For a program looking to build momentum, however, a statement victory like John Carroll's over Ohio Northern Saturday afternoon in the season opener may carry more weight than usual.
ResultsIt was a strong effort from start to finish for the Blue Streaks, who posted a 153-109 win over the defending Ohio Athletic Conference champions. Things began well immediately at Johnson Natatorium, as the 200 medley relay of
Carly Adams,
Lindsey Fano,
Anne Crowley and
Victoria Watson teamed up to win in a time of 1:49.98, which was by a margin of almost three seconds.
Several members of that quartet also won individual races. Watson also won the 200 Free in 2:00.69 and the 100 Free in 54.81, while Fano won the 100 Breast in 1:09.03 (her winning margin was less than a half second) and the 200 Breast (2:30.29).
Crowley also won her first individual race as a Blue Streak, claiming first in the 200 Fly (2:26.70). She then won the 100 Fly later in the meet with a time of 1:01.93. Adams captured her victory in the 200 IM (2:16.54).
Outside of the aforementioned quartet, it was a good day for freshman
Jane Verdi. In the 1000 Free, she won in a time of 11:28.20. Verdi also won the 500 Free in 5:34.90.
