John Carroll Football Game Notes
 
The John Carroll University football team's Thanksgiving weekend travel plans include a trip to the Chicago-area as the Blue Streaks will travel to Wheaton, Ill. for the second round of the 2014 NCAA Division III Football Championship.
 
John Carroll and Wheaton will square off in a noon Central time contest on Saturday, Nov. 29.
 
John Carroll (10-1) reached double-digit wins for the third time in program history and first since 2002, Tom Arth's senior year, with its 63-28 win over Centre in the first round last Saturday. Wheaton (11-0) has advanced to the second round in all eight of its postseason appearances.
 
The game features a matchup of top 10 teams. John Carroll entered the postseason sixth in the D3football.com Top 25 and ninth in the AFCA Coaches' Top 25. Wheaton checked in at eighth in both polls.
 
Two of the country's top third down units will square off. The Thunder featured the nation's second-ranked third down conversion offense at 53.7 percent while the Blue Streaks counter with their fourth-ranked third down conversion defense at 21.3 percent. On the flip side, JCU ranks fourth converting 51.9 percent of its third down chances while WC has held opposition to a 30.7 percent clip.
 
The contest will feature two stellar defense as both teams surrender less than 14 points per game. John Carroll ranks sixth nationally in scoring defense while Wheaton ranks 14th.
 
The winner will advance to the quarterfinal round where it will face the winner of the Mount Union-Washington & Jefferson game on Saturday, December 6.

Tickets and Gate Opening
Online advance tickets are available up until kickoff on Saturday. Online tickets are available HERE and tickets can be printed out at home or sent to your mobile phone.
 
All seats inside McCully Stadium are general admission. Tickets are $8 for adults and $4 for students. There is a 25-percent online service fee for all online ticket sales. Walk-up ticket sales on Saturday are cash only. Gates to McCully Stadium will open at 11 a.m. Central time.
