Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 Faced with a quick turnaround and three doubleheaders within 72 hours in three separate cities the John Carroll University softball team looked to open up OAC play with a sweep.

John Carroll and Muskingum split the conference opener at Mose Morehead Field on Saturday afternoon in New Concord in two games with wild finishes. Muskingum walked off with the 2-1 win in the first game while John Carroll had a wild finish of its own for the 9-8 win in the second game.

Game One
In a bizarre finish Muskingum walked off with back-to-back homers in the bottom of the seventh inning to take game one 2-1. Freshman Kristin Mace pinch hit to start the inning and ripped a home run to left field to tie the game at one. Amber Bova then clubbed a home run to right center to take the game.

John Carroll's lone run came in the fifth inning when Samantha Becker roped a 2-out home run to right center.

The Blue Streaks out-hit the Fighting Muskies 7-6 in the first game but could not string together back-to-back hits except for the fifth inning.

Game Two
Muskingum carried over its late-game heroics from the first game to take an early lead. John Carroll stormed right back but needed a stealthy base running in the seventh inning and stellar defense in the field to hold on for the 9-8 win.

Ashlee Unrue reached on an infield single to start the seventh inning. Desperate to bring her in, Becker and Erica Chiudioni made solid contact but lined out. Needing to get into scoring position, Unrue took over stealing second and third. The junior came in to score the game-winning run on Morgan Robinson's single.

The Fighting Muskies tried to pull of their second walkoff win of the day getting runners on first and second with two outs. Byrnes recovered setting Fallon Gawry to pop out to Unrue to end the game.

John Carroll's big offensive outburst came with a 5-run third inning which gave JCU the 5-2 lead. The Blue and Gold received doubles from Colleen Brady and Unrue which plated the runs.

Muskingum looked to carry over its late-game heroics and came out hungry in the second game as the Fighting Muskies' first three hitters recorded hits off of sophomore Gina Tosti. Gawry hit into a fielder's choice to plate Muskingum's second run in the first inning.

The Blue Streaks expanded their lead to 7-2 in the fourth inning when Rebecca Reid conntected on a 2-out bases-loaded single to plate Lia Locey and Carly Simecek.  John Carroll would add one more run in the fifth inning on Unrue's home run.

Muskingum would not go quietly scoring three runs in the fourth, two in the fifth and one in the sixth to tie the game at eight.
John Carroll out-hit Muskingum 15-13.

Unrue led the Blue Streaks at the plate with three hits and four RBIs in the second game.

John Carroll travels to Thomas More for a doubleheader on Sunday. First pitch is slated for noon.
