Box Score 2 Playing in its third doubleheader at its third site in as many days the John Carroll University softball team looked to finish the weekend strong after traveling throughout Ohio and into Kentucky.
Squaring off against Thomas More in Crestview Hills, Ky., both teams erupted for a monster first inning in their respective wins with the Blue Streaks taking game one and the Saints rebounding to win game two.
Game One
Only having scored one run in the first inning in their 12 games this season the Blue Streak hitters struck early for a 4-run first inning en route to an 8-3 win.
Morgan Robinson plated
Erica Chiudioni for JCU's second first inning run of the year with a 1-out double. After the Blue Streaks loaded the bases
Colleen Brady came through with a 2-out, 3-run double down the left field line to give John Carroll an early 4-0 lead.
Robinson would pad the lead to five with her second RBI hit of the game lacing a single in the second inning to bring in
Ashlee Unrue.
One day removed from a win over nationally-ranked Wittenberg, Thomas More struck for three in the bottom of the third taking full advantage of three walks, a hit batter and a JCU error. The only hit of the frame came on Eva Sandmann's single.
John Carroll stormed right back adding two runs in the fourth to take the 7-3 lead.

Rebecca Reid added a RBI single in the seventh for JCU's final run.
Rachel Byrnes picked up the win to improve to 5-3 on the season. The Blue Streaks out-hit the Saints 11-5. Eight JCU players recorded a hit lead by Robinson's three and Brady's two.
Game Two
Backed by a 7-run first inning Thomas More rebounded to take the 12-4 decision in the second game of the doubleheader.
The Saints sent 11 batters to the plate in the first inning. Thomas More did its most damage via a 3-run homer by Haley Shuemake.
John Carroll cut its deficit in the top of the second scoring three runs to make it a 7-3 game.
Alyssa Coleman and Brady recorded back-to-back hits to give JCU two runners in scoring position with no outs. Reid laced a single to put JCU on the board with Brady also scoring on the play via a Thomas More error. Reid would add the third run scoring on a passed ball.
The Saints added four runs in the third and one in the fourth to take a 12-3 lead.
Needing two runs to keep playing in the top of the fifth John Carroll ran into a heads-up Thomas More infield. The Blue Streaks picked up a run on Coleman's RBI single but JCU had two lead runners putout on fielder's choices in the inning to cut the momentum.
Freshman
Brianna Lach fell to 5-5 on the season while Thomas More's Mamee Salzer improved to 5-2.
John Carroll's record stands at 7-7 after its third-straight split this weekend. The Blue Streaks have their hopeful home opener on Wednesday, March 26 against Denison beginning at 3:30 p.m.
