Alex Mihas rallied from a set down to secure the final team point in JCU's 5-4 win over Mount Union
Upon winning two of the three doubles matches Tuesday afternoon against Mount Union, John Carroll men's tennis head coach
Shaun Keenan remained apprehensive when it came to the possible outcome.
Keenan felt it very well could be decided by one point either way. As it turned out, he was spot on with his prognostication.
Thanks to a spirited comeback by
Alex Mihas in the #5 singles match, Keenan and the Blue Streaks were on the right side of that one-point decision as John Carroll edged the Purple Raiders, 5-4, in an Ohio Athletic Conference match-up staged at Ursuline College in nearby Pepper Pike.
JCU won the #1 and #2 doubles matches by comfortable margins.
Sean Graham and
Kyle Mollison won by an 8-2 count at #1 doubles, whileÂ
Jad Abdul-Aal and
Nick Siciliano produced an 8-3 victory at #2 doubles.
John Carroll needed to split the singles matches to earn the overall victory, and Abdul-Aal at #1 and Siciliano at #4 did their part by winning their bouts in straight sets.
Eric Grimaldi had a close call at #6 singles but fell in three stes.
It ultimately fell on Mihas, who was able to shake off a slow start to win his match over senior Patrick Yackmack 2-6 6-2 6-2 to secure the team victory.
John Carroll improved to 5-7 overall and 2-0 in OAC play, while Mount Union slipped to 7-2 overall and 0-2 in league play.
