John Carroll University football head coach
Tom Arth has announced
Frank Ross has been promoted to special teams coordinator for the 2014 season. Ross, in his second year on JCU's staff, spent the 2013 campaign mentoring the quarterbacks.
"We placed a major emphasis on special teams last season and our players really believed in it and understood the importance and value of being successful on those units," said Arth. "I'm very excited to have Frank in that position. I know he is going to bring added energy and enthusiasm to that role."
Ross' charges had a banner year in 2013 with junior
Mark Myers re-writing the JCU passing record book. Under Ross' watch Myers set single-season JCU records for passing yards (3,228), completions (246) and attempts (385).
His new charges had an electrifying 2013 season.
Kick
Kresimir Ivkovic was a 2013 Associated Press Little All-America second team selection and a finalist for the prestigious Fred Mitchell Award. The Blue Streaks finished sixth in all of Division III with seven blocked kicks last season.
The 2011 graduate of JCU is no stranger to success. As a Blue Streak Ross set a school record with 206 receptions. He was a 3-time All-OAC performer and was chosen to represent John Carroll in the Ohio National Guard's North vs. South Senior Bowl and the Tazon de Estrellas (Bowl fo the Stars) in Mexico City.
"I am thankful to Coach Arth and the John Carroll staff to have the confidence in me and my coaching abilities to move me into this role," said Ross. "It is an opportunity knocking on my door to help me develop and learn another year in my career while at the same time being a part of such a great program. I am looking forward to take advantage of this and watch our players perform in 2014."
Prior to returning home Ross spent two years with the New England Patriots in the personnel department under JCU alum Nick Caserio.
Ross graduated from Canfield High School in 2006 and was the quarterback of the 2005 state runner-up team.
