After falling to their first OAC opponent on the road on Saturday, the Blue Streaks men's soccer team welcomed the opportunity to play at home.
JCU would not let their opportunity go to waste.
Four different Blue Streaks scored as John Carroll defeated Otterbein 5-1 at Don Shula Stadium on Tuesday night.
John Carroll (6-3-1, 1-1 OAC) improved to 27-2-3 at home since the start of the 2012 season. Otterbein, which had its six-game winning streak snapped, fell to 6-4-1 and 1-1 in conference play.
Otterbein struck first in the 14th minute of play. Senior Francisco Marty's pass allowed sophomore Nate Norris to find the back of the net.
Sophomore Jesse Marinaro tied up the game for the Blue Streaks, with an assist from sophomore Tristan Lyles, in the 30th minute of the game. Less than two minutes after Marinaro's goal, junior Justin Miller scored, which allowed John Carroll to finish the half with the upper hand.
In the 56th minute, senior Kevin Pachuta was taken down in the box. Sophomore Jake Lombardo converted the penalty kick to increase John Carroll's lead to 3-1.
Senior Jimmy Mattina scored in the 61st minute with an assist from senior Michael Melfi. Shortly after, in the 71st, Miller scored his second goal of the match, assisted by Marinaro, to put the finishing touches on the Blue Streaks victory.
JCU had nine shots on goal versus Otterbein's two, and won the tota shots battle by a 19-5 count
John Carroll will continue conference play on Saturday night at 7:00 at Wilmington College.
