Behind a balance effort the John Carroll University women's lacrosse team earned its first road win in program history. The Blue Streaks topped host Elmhurst 13-2 on Saturday afternoon.

The game started as a defensive battle as only one shot was attempted in the first nine-plus minutes of play. Elmhurst's Nikki Togami buried a free position goal with 21:47 remaining in the opening half for the game's first goal.

John Carroll answered right back with eight straight goals to open up an 8-1 advantage with just over two minutes remaining in the half.

Grace Curatolo started the run off a feed from
Annamae Bolen with 18:15 remaining in the half. Curatolo, JCU's leading goal scorer would go on to find the back of the net three more times in the contest. Bolen would earn her lone goal of the contest with 17:53 remaining in the half. She would later add two more assists in the tilt.

Gina Vilsack netted back-to-back goals making the score 4-1. The freshman made it a hat trick for the game on a free position shot with 24:42 remaining in the game.

In all, seven Blue Streaks found the back of the net for the game. Rounding out JCU's goal scorers were
Roserita DiMillo (two),
Meghan Harte,
Ivy Page and
Caroline Seekings.

John Carroll kept Elmhurst off the board in the second stanza. The Blue Streaks held the hosts to just 11 shots in the contest.
Mary Jo Murino recorded three of her five saves over the final 30 minutes. Harte led the way defensively finishing with six ground balls and three caused turnovers.

The Blue Streaks' defense caused havoc in transition all afternoon for the Bluejays. Elmhurst would finish with 34 turnovers and was just 12-for-22 on clear attempts.

John Carroll improved to 2-1 with the win while Elmhurst fell to 0-3.

The women's lacrosse team returns home to host Oberlin at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18.
