Eckerd Box ScoreThe John Carroll University women's tennis team has had a lot of success thus far. Head coach Shuan Keenan challenged the team with a string of matches against Division II, and top-tier junior college programs this week.
John Carroll's best performance came against Division II Southeastern with JCU able to pick up a pair of wins before falling 7-2. The Blue Streaks were swept by nationally-ranked junior college St. Petersburgh, Division II Florida Tech, and Division II Eckerd.
Katherine Devine and
Tracy Gibson earned an 8-2 win over Southeastern on Tuesday at No. 3 doubles. The duo topped twins Savannah and Alaina Ewing.
Natalie Bourlas earned a 6-3, 6-1 singles win at No. 6 over the later Ewing.
Other highlights of the trip included a pair of tightly contested matches against St. Ptersburgh. Devine and Gibson dropped a hard-fought 8-6 decision at No. 3 doubles.
Ivana Didovic would win her first set 6-2 at No. 5 singles before dropping the next two 3-6, 7-10.
Against Eckerd sisters Natalie and
Nicolette Bourlas battled hard but dropped a 9-8 (9-7) decision in a tiebreaker at No. 1 doubles.
Jennifer Stroyne won her first set at No. 3 singles 6-3 but would fall 3-6, 6-10 in three sets.
JCU's dual record stands at 4-4 after the trip. The team is back in action at Oberlin on Saturday, March 14.
