Close Calls Early Catch Blue Streaks Late As Women's Tennis Falls In Oac Final

The "what if" game plays out often in sports, and for the John Carroll women's tennis team, the "what if" game will center around a pair of first set singles tiebreakers that did not fall their way.

As for "what did", the Ohio Northern took advantage of those first set wins to roll in singles play to a 5-2 victory to win its third OAC title in four years.

Box Score

The Bourlas family had a hand in both JCU wins today. Nicolette Bourlas and Natalie Bourlas rallied from an early deficit to win at #1 doubles, 8-5.

In singles play, Natalie Bourlas won in straight sets at the #6 position to tie the match, but Ohio Northern closed out the win by winning at #1, #2 and #3 singles.

The close calls came at #1 and #4. Nicolette Bourlas took Michelle Tuma to a first set breaker but lost 7-5 and then fell 6-1 in the second set in what proved to be the clinching match. Katharine Devine also dropped her first set tiebreaker in the #4 match and was trailing in the second when play ended.

John Carroll, playing in its first final since 2012, ended its season with a record of 15-7
