Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Goal Scoring Streak Snapped Under The Lights At Case Reserve

John Carroll had scored at least one goal in each of the last 20 games. Often times it was more than one goal, as the Blue Streaks had scored 67 goals over their previous 20 matches.

But DiSanto Field at Case Western Reserve University has turned into Death Valley when it comes to offense for JCU men's soccer.

Playing under the lights Wednesday evening, Case Reserve scored one minute and nine seconds into the match and never looked back en route to a 2-0 victory over the visiting Blue Streaks. The win not only snapped John Carroll's 20-match scoring streak but a modest four-match unbeten streak as well.

The early strike was a stunning start to a match between two teams that began play this evening with a combined record of 7-2-1. Aided by a collision between two JCU defenders that cleared the way, Chris Cvecko found the back of the net on a feed from Devon Belew to give the Spartans their early lead.

That score would hold until the 48th minute. Although not as early into a half as the first score, Cvecko scored his second goal of the match just two minutes and ten seconds into the second period to stake his Spartans a 2-0 lead.

Both teams finished the match with ten shots apiece, and the Blue Streaks had a significant advantage in corner kicks (8-2), but for the third time in its last four visits to the home field of its Cleveland area rival, John Carroll could not tally a point. JCU is now 0-4 in its last four trips to CWRU, with its last win a 6-0 decision in 2003. Over that same stretch, John Carroll is 4-1 at home against the Spartans, including a 3-2 win at Shula Stadium last season.

Dalton Browsky had three shots to lead John Carroll, which falls to 3-2-1 on the season with the loss.

Christian Grimme made four saves for Case Reserve, which improved to 5-1 with the win.
