John Carroll and Oberlin traded shots across the bow Saturday afternoon at the William H. Johnson Natatorium.
In the end, it was the host Blue Streaks who landed the more devastating hits, producing a hard-fought 155-144 win in a non-conference meet.

Amanda Casamatta won the race by over five seconds. But two Oberlin 1-2 sweeps in the 1000 Free and 200 Free but the Yeowomen ahead, 30-25, after three events.
The next volley would belong to the Blue Streaks. Adams came through with a win in a hotly contested duel with Lauren Wong in the 100 Back. Adams swam a time of 1:01.02 to edge Wong's mark of 1:02.07.
JCU then landed its own 1-2 punch with Fano and
Jessica Morrow taking first and second, respectively, in the 100 Breast. The Blue Streaks were back in front as a result, 54-39.
The Blue Streaks gave a little groun in the 200 Fly, but responded when Casamatta won the 50 Free (25.96) and newcomer Ashley Creasap, a transfer trom Towson by way of Mentor Ohio, won the 1-meter diving competition with a score of 167.75. After the diving event, John Carroll's lead increased to 85-64.
Oberlin chipped away at the lead, winning three of the next four events. Only Fano's win in the 200 Breast (2:32.14) broke up the parade. With just four events remaining, John Carroll's lead had been whittled to 118-107.
Some big wins down the stretch staved off any thoughts of an Oberlin win. Crowley delivered a two-second victory in the 100 Fly (1:01.41), while Fano won for the third time on the afternoon by touching first in the 200 IM (2:18.33), with teammate Adams taking second (2:19.74). That last surge gave JCU an insurmountable 153-129 advantage heading into the final relay.
