Five was the magic number on Saturday.
The John Carroll men's track & field team traveled five miles to showcase their returning talent, leaving with five second place finishes at the Spartan Holiday Classic.

JCU traveled to Case Western Reserve with a limited squad, competing with sprinters, throwers and jumpers.
Jonathon Radney placed second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.25. Shortly after,
Austin McIlvaine followed suit with a runner-up mark in the 200 meter dash at 23.44.
In the field,
Nick Colby started the day off with a 14.59 meter mark in the weight throw, good for second place.
J.J. Bost ended in fifth place with a 13.41 toss.
Bost took the second spot in the shot put with a 14.50 meter mark. Bost's throw was over one meter further than his previous personal best in the event. Over his six total attempts, three were personal best marks.
Tyler Jew was the fifth second place finisher with a 11.96 meter jump.
Up next for John Carroll is a trip to Ada, OH on Jan. 21 for an Ohio Athletic Conference meet at Ohio Northern University.
