Strong efforts became contagious for John Carroll, and the Blue Streaks rode the wave to a fourth place finish at the 2016 Ohio Athletic Conference Indoor Track & Field Championships, which concluded Saturday at Marietta College in Marietta, Ohio.
Mount Union won the team title with 158.5 points, well ahead of runner-up Ohio Northern which finished with 135. Otterbein (103) and John Carroll (99) and Heidelberg (68.5) rounded out the top five.

Matt Andrews won one title on Friday in the 3000 meter run, and the Blue Streaks added two more Saturday.
The first was turned in by
Frankie Caponi, who raced to a win in the 55 meter hurdles. In a tight race, Caponi cleared all the hurdles clean, and crossed the finish line in first with a time of 7.93.
Will Cameron followed a few events later with a strong performance in the 500 meter dash, taking over the lead with more than a lap to go and cruising to the victory in 1:05.69.
Both relays that ran Saturday finished in the top three to earn All-OAC accolades. The 4 x 200 quartet of
Jonathon Radney,
Cole Weirich,
Austin McIlvaine and
Nick Woods covered the distance in 1;31.48 to finish third. The 4 x 400 unit of
Michael Hydzik, McIlvaine, Woods and Cameron finished second in 3:24.50.
Hydzik also finished second in his 800 meter run, crossing the finiush line in 1:56.95.Â
Also finishing second and earning All-OAC honors was
Andrew Snyder, who came from back in the pack to finish as the runner-up in the 5000 meter run (15:15.81). Snyder was joined in the scoring by
Patrick O'Brien who was fourth (15:23.63) and Gus Kazek who was seventh (15:29.39).
Andrews followed his title Friday with two scoring runs Saturday. He placed third and earned all-league status in the one mile run (4;21.79) and took seventh in the 1000 meter run (2:37.89).
Radney also turned in an All-OAC effort in the 55 meter dash (6.52), placing third.
Woods scored for the Blue Streaks in the 400 meter run, earning seventh place (51.36)
