Baseball Leaves Florida 5-3, Drops Final Game With St. John Fisher

The week-long John Carroll baseball spring journey to Florida came to an end on Saturday.

The Blue Streaks could not muster the offense to top the St. John Fisher Cardinals, falling 9-1 at Chain of Lakes Park in Winter Haven, Fla.

The loss drops JCU to 5-3, sending them back north with a winning record at the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational.

Drew Vargo (0-1) took the loss. The lefty allowed six runs on eight hits in five innings. Marc Iseneker records his first win of 2016 for the Cardinals, giving up one run in six innings, adding seven strikeouts.

David Crowley briefly gave JCU the lead in the first inning with an RBI groundout. The Cardinals notched three in the first on an RBI single by Tom Kline, extending their lead to 4-1 on a David Locke RBI double in the fourth.

St. John Fisher took command on a two-run home run by Josh Amann to left field. The Cardinals added three more in the eighth.

Mark Pisanello and Joel Shaffer each appeared in relief of Vargo. Crowley once again was 2-for-3; the senior has reached base safely in all eight games this season. JCU stranded seven baserunners in the contest.

The Blue Streaks hit the road for Kokomo, Ind. next weekend, playing a three-game series with Manchester University.
