Opening half-hour decides draw for John Carroll

A trip to Denison University could be summed up in a half hour for John Carroll University women's soccer.

In one of the final non-conference games listed on the schedule, John Carroll took a 2-2 draw out of match with Denison. All four scoring tallies in the match came within the first 30 minutes of the opening whistle.

The scoreboard operator found work early as the hosting Big Red jumped out to an early lead. Just 28 seconds ticked off the game clock before Allison Vilsack scored the opening tally of the match, giving Denison an early 1-0 lead.

An insurance score would be supplied from Jacquie Graham in the 19th minute. Grace Murray was credited with the assist on the goal that pushed the Big Red to a 2-0 lead over the visiting Blue Streaks.

Facing a 2-0 deficient by the 19th minute seemed to ignite the John Carroll offense. Jaclyn Audino set the Blue Streaks on the comeback tracks when she powered a goal through in 21st minute.

John Carroll would find the equalizer just 7:06 later. Katie O'Donnell supplied the decisive strike to even the score at two goals apiece. Lexie Keller is credited with the assist and adds her first point of the 2016 season.

After the first half hour, John Carroll and Denison were deadlocked at two goals a side, a line that would not be broken.

The second half and two extra periods would not find a winning touch from either side.

As a team, John Carroll fired nine shots off in the game with six being pushed on frame. Rhianna Guarnera made seven saves as the John Carroll goalkeeper.

JCU now moves to 3-3-2 on the year ahead of their final non-conference game with Case Western Reserve University, which is slated for Sunday, Sept. 25 at 4:30 pm at Don Shula Stadium.
