Offense Stalls in Sunday Showdown with CMU

John Carroll men's soccer dropped their second straight match at home with a 1-0 decision with No. 17 ranked Carnegie Mellon University.

This was the 19th meeting between the two programs, but just the first since the 2003 season. The back-to-back home shutout losses for the Blue Streaks is a rarity, with the last instance coming during the 1983 season.

Midfield play regulated most of the pace in the opening minutes of the first half. It would take a Zach Masciopinto strike in the 16th minute to add the lone scoring mark of the contest. Jimmy Jameson was credited with the assist on what would be the only goal of the match. CMU finished the half with four shots to the JCU two. The visitors also manufactured five corner kicks in the opening half as the Tartans took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

John Carroll did not slow down against the ranked Tartans, suppling most of the game's attacking in the second half. The team manufactured nine shots and two corners in the final 45 minutes. An equalizing touch was not in the cards for the Blue Streaks, cementing the 1-0 defeat.

John Carroll moves to 3-4-1 on the year with the loss ahead of the final non-conference game with Fredonia State on Sept. 28.
