JCU Opens Campaign With Loss to Nationally Ranked Spartans

Hoping to repeat its historical win from last year, John Carroll fell short of victory against a motivated Case Western Reserve squad by a score of 211.5 - 76.5.

Complete Results

Last year, the Blue Streaks opened up their season by pulling off a 126-115 upset, the first time since 1997 that JCU had beaten CWRU.

This year would be a much different story, as the Spartans (#25 in the preseason CSCAA Division III poll) flexed their collective muscle throughout the day in their home pool.

Even though the Streaks did not get the results they were looking for, the men had a strong start by winning the 400 Medley Relay. Consisting of Jackson Cooper, Mason Beck, Brian Hulseman, and Tom Pacak, John Carroll placed first with a time of 3:33.88.

Pacak kept the momentum going with a first place finish in the 200 Free with a time of 1:45.28.

Both Mason Beck and Jackson Cooper followed in Pacak's footsteps, taking first in the 100 Breast (59.74) and 100 Fly (52.30), respectively.

Brian Hulseman, Jackson Cooper, Chris Soules, and Tom Pacak touched second in the 400 Free Relay with a time of 3:16.90 in the final race of the day.

The Blue Streaks will be in the water next against the Eagles of Ashland University on October 28th.
