The John Carroll men's basketball team snagged their second win of the season against SUNY Poly on Saturday afternoon, claiming the 2017 Hilbert College Tip-Off Tournament championship title.
With the win, the Blue Streaks hold a 2-0 record, while SUNY Poly, the defending regular season champion of the North Eastern Athletic Conference (NEAC), falls to 1-1.
Just as it did Friday, John Carroll was quick to take the momentum, recording another 60 plus-point first half performance. As a team, the Blue Streaks shot .548 from the field and .438 from beyond the arc.
Matthew Csuhran led the John Carroll offense, shooting 4-5 from the field in addition to nailing a pair of threes.
John Cirillo and
Ryan Berger also added nine points apiece.
Although the Wildcats stayed within striking distance, the Blue Streaks pulled through in the end to take a 22-point lead (66-44) going into halftime.
The second half was more of the same. John Carroll continued to dominate the floor, eventually securing the 115-89 win.
Csuhran topped the Blue Streaks in scoring, notching 19 points. The senior went 5-10 from the field on top of shooting three three-pointers and being perfect from behind the charity stripe (6-6). Cirillo,
Antonio Vuyancih,
Jimmy Berger,
Ryan Berger, and
Jackson Sartain also made up the group of Blue Streaks that scored in double-digits.
For their impressive performance on the weekend, Csuhran and Sartain were also named to the all-tournament team.
John Carroll will next travel to Kalamazoo, Michigan to compete in the Kalamazoo College Thanksgiving Classic.
