Seniors Jesse Marinaro and Jake Lombardo were selected to represent the John Carroll program as the 2017 All-Great Lakes Region team were released today by the United Soccer Coaches.

Marinaro, who was chosen as the 2017 OAC Midfielder of the Year earlier in November, was named All-Great Lakes Region first team. Lombardo, named All-OAC for the first time in his career in 2017, was voted to the all-region second team.

A two-time OAC Midfielder of the Year and three-time all-league selection, Marinaro led the 2017 JCU squad in goals (12), assists (14) and points (38). He started and played in 20 matches this season, and had five game-winning goals. In his career, Marinaro logged 82 matches and has 37 goals and 33 assists for 107 points -- one of only five players in program history to top the century mark.

Lombardo, a two-time All-OAC selection (2nd team in 2016, first team in 2017) amassed ten goals and six assists for his 26 points, with the goals and points being career highs for Lombardo. In his career, he has totaled 77 points on a well balanced 26 goals and 25 assists. Lombardo's 77 points are ninth best all time at JCU.

Both Marinaro and Lombardo are first time all-region selections. They were also All-Ohio picks in 2016 (Marinaro 2nd team, Lombardo 3rd team)

John Carroll ended the 2017 campaign with a record of 16-3-2. The Blue Streaks qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship for the second consecutive year, winning their first NCAA game since 2007 by knocking off Ohio Wesleyan, 3-1, in the first round before falling to Calvin (ranked #1 in the nation at the time), 2-0.
