Title Defense Begins In Earnest As JCU Takes Measure Of Mount Union

All three Mount Union victories were individual races won by Purple Raiders All-American Dana Lautenschlager. The Blue Streaks won everything else.

In the opening 400 Medley Relay, the quartet of Carly Adams, Carmen Ferrante, Anne Crowley and Shelbi Shearer cruised to a win in 4:06.61. The "B" relay put an exclamation point on the win by defeating Mount Union's "A" relay by almost nine full seconds as Spenser Kale, Jessica Morrow, Tori Vale and Olivia Talamo covered the distance in 4:10.96.

Lautenschlager won the 1000 Free and the 200 Free in back-to-back swims to make the score 31-24, but that would be as close as the margin would be all afternoon.

Adams (1:01.03) and Kale (1:02.23) went 1-2 in the 100 Back, Carmen Ferrante won the 100 Breast (1:08.10), after which Chloe Ruggiero (2:21.63), Sophie Kocheff (2:22.81) and Rachel Kerling (2:33.01) went 1-2-3 in the 200 Fly.

When Talamo (25.31) and Shearer (25.69) went 1-2 in the 50 Free, they helped push John Carroll's lead to 91-40.

Ashley Creasap kept the winning going by taking first in the 1-meter diving (178.35 points), and the trio of Shearer (56.68), Emily Yoos (57.78) and Talamo  (57.80) went 1-2-3 in the 100 Free.

Adams collected her second win by finishing first in the 200 Back (2:13.03), as did reigning OAC Swimmer of the Week Carmen Ferrante in the 200 Breast (2:31.56). Morrow made it a 1-2 finish in that event (2:33.83).

Lautenschleger stopped the JCU run with a win in the 500 Free, but the Blue Streaks response was a 1-2-3 finish in the 100 Fly. Vale touched first in 1:01.16) followed by Anne Crowley (1:01.54) and Yoos (1:04.16).

Creasap won unopposed in 3-meter diving (130.00), and was followed by Carmen Ferrante's third win -- the 200 IM. Ferannte (2:16.38) and Morrow (2:22.19) went 1-2 in that event as well.

The final salvo was a victory in the 200 Free Relay, as Talamo, Scherger, Crowley and Maddie Dolce posted a 1:41.82 as their time.

JCU is now 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the OAC. Mount Union falls to 2-1 overall and 0-1 in league action
