Box Score 2 John Carroll's only dual meet in the fall was against a top 50 ranked Division II team, the University of Charleston. To start off the spring, JCU scheduled the #12 team in Division III, Carngie Mellon.
Tuning up for that match, the Blue Streaks kicked off the spring schedule with a 9-0 pasting of Allegheny College Friday evening in Medaville, Pennsylvania.
The doubles matches were relatively close against the Gators.
Lauren O'Malley and
Madisyn Rini won by an 8-4 score over Michaela Thompson and Gaby DeLeon at the #1 spot.
Nicolette Bourlas and
Ivana Didovic survived a tiebreaker to defear Heidi Mueller and Amanda Ress Liere, 8-7 (7-5) at #2 doubles.
Natalie Bourlas and
Jennifer Stroyne cruised to an 8-3 win at #3 doubles.
All six singles matches were straight sets. O'Malley was a 6-0 6-0 winner at #1 singles, while Rini (#2),
Nicolette Bourlas (#3),
Katherine Devine (#4), Stroyne (#5) and
Molly Traverso (#6) also picked up wins.
On Sunday, JCU fell by an 8-1 score to the powerful Tartans in Pittsburgh.
In a battle of nationally ranked singles players, O'Malley (ranked 19th) rolled to a 6-2 6-2 win over 37th ranked Nicholle Torres 6-2, 6-2. Rini did her best to hold off 28th ranked Cori Sidell but fell by a 6-4 6-2 score.
Traverso played a memorable match in the #6 singles spot. After getting beat 6-1 in the opening set, Traverso battled deep into the second before falling in a tiebreaker, 7-4.
John Carroll is now 1-2 on the season.
