Men's Lacrosse Faces Quick Turnaround As NCAA Championship Commences Tuesday

Less than 36 hours after capturing the Ohio Athletic Conference tournament title Saturday for the second year, the John Carroll Blue Streaks will have less than 48 hours to prepare for their first round game i the 2017 NCAA Division III Championship tournament.

The Blue Streaks learned of their placement in the draw Sunday night. JCU will travel to Rochester, New York, to face Albion College on Tuesday, May 9 at 5:00 p.m. The winner would face Rochester Institute of Technology on Wednesday, May 10 at 4:00 p.m.

John Carroll is making its second appearance in the NCAA Division III Championship after defeating Capital, 11-8, in the Ohio Athletic Conference Championship Saturday. The Blue Streaks are 12-4 this season and have won a school record ten consecutive games. John Carroll's four losses are to Division I Cleveland State (15-8) and three 2017 NCAA Division III tournament qualifiers --  Aurora (9-6), Albion (7-6) and Illinois Wesleyan (17-15).

Albion College earned its way into the postseason when it outlasted Alma College, 11-8, in the Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championship game Saturday night. With the victory, Albion improved to 15-3 and earned the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Championship for the third consecutive year. 

JCU and Albion have met three times, with Albion holding a 2-1 advantage. The Britons won 7-6 in 2017 and 14-13 in 2016, while John Carroll won the first match-up, 10-8, in 2015.

RIT received the automatic bid to the 2017 tournament with a thrilling 13-12 overtime win over St. Lawrence University in the Liberty League Championship on Sunday. Currently ranked third in the USILA Division III poll, the Tigers have won eight straight league championships, including six in a row since joining the Liberty League in 2012. RIT will be making its eighth straight trip to the NCAA Tournament and 19th in program history.

The Blue Streaks lost to RIT in their only meeting, 29-6, in the first round of the 2016 NCAA Division III Championship.
